This Day in History: 2003-03-26

Irma Darre Brandt passed away in Norway. She was the first woman to compete in the Monte Carlo Rallye, driving her 1933 PC series Plymouth two door sedan in the 1934 Rallye. She won her division, driving from Norway to Monte Carlo. She kept the car throughout her entire life. During the Nazi occupation of Norway in 1940, she removed the wheels, tires, headlamps and some of the engine components so that her Plymouth would not be confiscated by the Germans.
