In McKeesport, PA, John Moulis drove his ski racing runabout Rumrunner 9 to a straightaway speed record of 87.5 mph. His boat was powered by a Chrysler 400 c.i. engine. Later that year, on December 29 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, he broke his own record, with a new speed of 97.25 mph.
