WP Cousino of the Chrysler corporation applied for a patent for an interior rear view mirror bracket that would stay firmly in place, yet could be easily adjustable. The purpose of the design is because if “the joint is too loose undesired displacement of the mirror occurs as an incident to vibration or jostling of the mirror by passengers. This is annoying for the mirror is then out of adjustment for the driver and frequent readjustment of the mirror is necessitated.” The patent was awarded four years later.
