This Day in History: 1944-04-20

Today was the last day that Chrysler’s Evansville plant manufactured bullets. All told, they manufactured over 3 billion, beginning June of 1942. 96% of all .45 ammo made for the armed forces came from this plant. At its peak, it employed 20 times more people than they did in peacetime, many of whom were women.
